Where the data comes from

What is connected today, and what is still being evaluated. NASA satellite imagery is connected for display on our maps, and a first set of numeric sources now feeds live values: climate indices, global temperature and active tropical cyclones. Forecasts and the remaining indicators are still labelled fixtures. Before any source is connected, we verify access, licence, redistribution rights, update cadence and attribution.

Connected for display

Real layers the site shows today, pulled at request time from NASA services. Display only: we do not redistribute the underlying data.

EPIC full-disk photographs

Natural-colour images of the sunlit Earth from NASA's EPIC camera on DSCOVR, about 1.5 million km away. Several per day, typically one to three days old.

Hero globe textures

The decorative globe is rendered from these NASA images. It is illustrative, not current weather; only the day–night line is computed for the current time.

    Climate Pulse — ERA5 daily global 2 m temperature

    Terms verified
    Provides
Global mean 2 m air temperature and its anomaly vs 1991–2020; annual means and monthly climatology

Daily (values for the last few days are preliminary)
    Licence
    Copernicus licence
    Required attribution

EONET — Earth Observatory Natural Event Tracker

    Terms verified
    Provides
Active tropical cyclones: positions and maximum sustained winds from JTWC and NOAA advisories

    Required attribution
“NASA EONET; originating agencies (JTWC, NOAA NHC/CPHC) as linked on each event”

EONET aggregates agency advisories; it is not an official warning service. For warnings, follow the responsible national agency.

Planned data architecture

Structured records (events, articles, dataset catalogue) and large gridded data (GRIB, NetCDF, Zarr, satellite imagery) have different needs, so they are planned to live in different stores. The interface talks only to normalised domain objects through adapters.
