Satellite-based estimate merged from microwave and infrared sensors; not a rain-gauge measurement. Green–red shades are rain; blue–purple shades are snowfall.

Blue shades show snowfall rate; the legend covers rain rate.

How this explorer works

From satellite pixels to a map you can trust.

  1. 01

    Observe

Satellites (GPM, Himawari-9, Suomi NPP, Terra/Aqua) measure rain, cloud tops, sea and land temperature, and aerosols.

  2. 02

    Process

NASA and partner centres turn raw measurements into calibrated products such as IMERG and GHRSST MUR.

  3. 03

    Render

NASA GIBS serves them as map tiles with official colour scales; we draw the matching legend.

  4. 04

    Disclose

Every layer carries its time, dataset, provider and data kind. Forecast models come next.
